Expedited Shipping (2-3 business days) is offered within the USA including Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico.
4. I have sensitive skin and burn easily in the sun. Are your products gentle enough for my skin?
Yes, our products were created for very sensitive skin that burns easily. See "Our Story" in the "About" pull down menu. We created several products with high SPF protection for customers who are struggling to find products that work for them and won't fail or cause breakouts. For customers with skin sensitivity, we recommend trying our product on a small patch of skin several hours prior to use to make sure it works for you.
5. How are your organic formulas certified?
Our organic formulas are certified organic by Quality Assurance International (QAI) to NSF/ANSI 305 standard. QAI is part of the NSF International family of companies and is the national leading organic product certifying agency accredited to the USDA National Organic Program (NOP) for skincare products.
6. Why is your organic sunscreen not a 100% organic?
Our formula contains pharmaceutical grade zinc oxide and Vitamin E; and certified organic plant based ingredients. The mathematical formula used by Quality Assurance International (QAI) to certify sunscreen products to NSF/ANSI 305 standard, and determine percent of organic content excludes zinc oxide and vitamin E from the calculation. Zinc oxide is a natural mineral and is not available in "organic" form. Also, vitamin E is not available in "organic" form either. Therefore, the formulation can not be 100% organic.
7. Are your products reef safe?
At KLAR, we acknowledge the current environmental issue concerning coral reefs and their potential impacts due to sunscreens washing off bodies and entering marine and aquatic environments. This is an issue we are deeply concerned about. Therefore, we created reef safe sunscreens that are NSF certified organic, biodegradeable, and only use zinc oxide as the active ingredient. Our Pure Zinc Oxide SPF 30 Lotion and Pure Zinc Oxide SPF 30 Sunstick products are the best biodegradable formulas that we can offer that are cosmetically appealing, noncomedogenic, have a high enough sun protection factor with broad spectrum protection, dry clear on most skin tones, and meet the requirements of Hawaii’s recent SB2571 sunscreen regulation passed in 2018. We recommend using our Pure Zinc Oxide SPF 30 Lotion or Sunstick if you are engaging in activities near sensitive sensitive marine and aquatic environments.
8. When does Hawaii’s reef safe regulation go into effect? What products can I use in Hawaii and other travel destinations where coral reef safe sunscreen is required?
Beginning January 1, 2021, Hawaii’s SB2571 will "ban the sale, offer of sale, or distribution in the State of Hawaii any sunscreen that contains oxybenzone or octinoxate, or both, without a prescription issued by a licensed healthcare provider to preserve marine ecosystems". At KLAR we recognize the importance of both, protecting sensitive marine environments as well as protecting human beings with very sensitive skin from sun exposure and reducing their risk of skin cancer. Our NSF certified organic Pure Zinc Oxide SPF 30 Lotion, Pure Zinc Oxide SPF 30 Sunstick, and our Pure Mineral SPF 47 Lotion all comply with Hawaii’s recent SB2571 sunscreen regulation. These 3 sunscreen products DO NOT contain oxybenzone or octinoxate. Also, our NSF certified organic Pure Zinc Oxide SPF 30 Lotion and Sunstick are biodegradable. We recommend using our Pure Zinc Oxide SPF 30 Lotion or Sunstick if you are engaging in activities near sensitive marine and aquatic environments. Although Hawaii’s sunscreen regulations don’t go into effect until 2021, sunscreen products containing oxybenzone or octinoxate are currently not allowed to be used in Hawaii, and other travel destinations such as Mexico. Please check with your travel destination prior to purchasing.
9. Are you products vegan?
We do not test on animals and we do not use any animal byproducts in our formulas. See "Our Difference" for a complete description of how KLAR products are different.
10. Are your products gluten-free and soy-free?
Our products do not contain gluten or wheat derived ingredients nor do they contain xanthan gum. Xanthan gum is commonly used in sunscreens and is fermented from wheat or soy. We do not use this ingredient in any of our formulas. However, we are not a gluten-free facility. For customers with gluten sensitivity, we recommend trying our product on a small patch of skin several hours prior to use to make sure it works for you.
